Easyjet is continuing to reorganise its presence in France. After announcing its intention to leave Toulouse-Blagnac airport, the company has today indicated its desire to abandon Paris-Beauvais.
The group moved there in September 2022 and offered flights to Nice, Milan and Lisbon with the secret ambition of shaking up Ryanair, which has made Beauvais its stronghold (80% of the airport’s traffic).
“The company will effectively end its operations to and from Beauvais Airport from the end of the 2024 summer season,” Easyjet confirmed to Challenges.
The company has not specified the reasons for this departure, but explains that it wants to concentrate on its “most popular lines.”
Present in 22 French airports
“We are focusing our efforts on maintaining and developing the routes that are most popular with our passengers, focusing on those with the highest demand. We continue to serve 22 airports in France.”
This is bad news for SAGEB, the Paris-Beauvais operator, which saw the arrival of Easyjet as proof of the “attractiveness of our airport and our territory in a phase of strong recovery in air traffic”.
When contacted, SAGEB was unable to comment on the airline’s decision.
To justify its departure from Toulouse, Easyjet points to “a slower post-Covid recovery and inflationary pressure, which impacts Easyjet’s ability to invest more in France,” reads a press release.
“The proposed reorganisation of Easyjet’s structure in France is an integral part of the company’s long-term strategy to sustain its activities in the French market. It will allow the orange company to take advantage of growth opportunities and maintain its second airline in France,” the company said.
