Startup Portugal: 3000 startups can receive vouchers worth 30 thousand euros

The support for 3,000 ‘startups’ announced at the opening of the Web Summit will be given in vouchers with a fixed value of 30,000 euros, Startup Portugal announced on Friday.

In a statement, Startup Portugal, the managing entity of the entrepreneurship measure of the C16 component of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), provided details of the measure “Vouchers for Startups – New Green and Digital Products” announced by the Minister of Economics, Antonio Costa Silva.

On the opening night of the Web Summit, on November 2, the minister announced that a €90 million package would be launched to support 3000 startups over the next four years.

“To apply for their projects, startups must exist up to 10 years, headquartered in Portugal and SME certified, by IAPMEI”refers to Startup Portugal.

Eligible expenses for these vouchers are personnel costs, expenditures with accreditation or technological certification of personnel, purchase of specialized external services (including digitization of business processes, marketing services), purchase or operational rental of equipment, costs of licenses or subscriptions of software, costs with the protection/improvement of intellectual property rights and indirect costs.

“This is a fundamental measure for the development of our ecosystem. Our ‘startups’ need support in their start-up phase and we believe that these ‘vouchers’ will be an important support in the realization of projects led by entrepreneurs in Portugal,” he says .António Dias Martins, CEO of Startup Portugal, quoted in the statement.

The ‘vouchers’ have a fixed value “of 30,000 euros per ‘startup’, which are made available in six quarterly tranches of five thousand euros”, and the applications “from each quarterly ‘cut-off’ are analyzed by Startup Portugal”, reads. in the document.

The measure has a total value of 90 million euros to be awarded through 3,000 ‘vouchers’ until 2025.

The application form will be published on the IAPMEI website until November 25.

The tender under the measure “Vouchers for Startups – New Green and Digital Products” was published on the portal recuperaportugal.gov.pt on 3 November. This is a measure funded by the PRR/Next Generation EU.

The Web Summit, which started Tuesday, will end this Friday, with its seventh edition reaching its maximum capacity with 71,033 participants from 160 countries, with the largest number of ‘startups’ and investors ever.
