The last day of the international conference on the “Economics of Longevity” in Salamanca brought together women from different fields in discussions about the development of longevity from the perspective of sustainability.
Portuguese Ana João Sepúlveda (40+Lab), together with Paz Martín (Fundación Arquitectura e Sociedad) and Maria Laffaire (KSNET), started this Thursday morning with a positive Iberian perspective on the challenges and opportunities of the longevity economy in Portugal and in Spain.
The three representatives of companies that promote the well-being of the elderly and act through economics, architecture and government policy defend that there is still a long way to go to quality aging without prejudice – at a time when an average age of 90 is predicted for women by 2069.
For Ana, Paz and María, one thing is certain: “There will be more and more elderly people”. Therefore, “since we cannot change the demographic trend, we must have a vision about longevity and not just about aging,” says Ana João Sepúlveda.
In the same perspective, Concepción Galdón (IE University) believes that “longevity is not just the extension of life, but a new reality”, and calls for new paradigms that unite the young and the elderly, ensure healthy aging and promote innovation.
Isabel Ferreira, State Secretary for Regional Development of Portugal, was also present at this event, highlighting the opportunities of the Portugal 2030 strategy and the climate challenges, the digital and socio-demographic transition to the long-lived economy.
