Severe judgment of the French on their public services. A large majority of French people (61%) believe that public services work fairly or very poorly in the country, according to an Ifop survey for the sunday paper Posted this Sunday. In this survey, 43% of some 1,500 people surveyed online from November 2 to 4 believe that public services work quite poorly and 18% that they work very poorly.
The respondents who say they are close to the National Rally are the most severe: 76% of them have a negative view of the functioning of public services. In contrast, only 35% of respondents close to the Renaissance presidential party make this critical judgement.
The dissatisfaction of the women surveyed is five points higher than that of the men (64% compared to 59%). Dissatisfaction seems to increase with age, with those over 35 also being five points more critical than younger respondents (63% vs. 58%).
Universities, schools, justice…
Public services are not all in the same boat as the majority of French people consider that Social Security (56%), universities (53%) or schools (52%) are working well, while only 23 are not. % those who consider the functioning of justice to be satisfactory.
Again, the sentiment of those close to the presidential majority is more positive than average, and the opinion of those close to RN more negative.
The survey is published a few days after the launch by the government of a broad consultation on public service, “in the spirit” of the National Refoundation Council installed in September by Emmanuel Macron. Various public administration professions have been unattractive for several years, with the number of candidates halving in ten years, according to recent statements by Minister Stanislas Guerini.
