Faced with inflation, the government considers wage increases to be one lever among others. And re-advocate for the generalization of the employee dividend to support purchasing power.
Asked on BFMTV on Monday, Bruno Le Maire recalls first of all that companies have played the game of raises with “more than 4% while I speak to you in 2022”, refuting criticism from unions who believe that companies prefer to pay bonuses to increase wages.
The Economy Minister also underlines that Macron’s tax-free bonus benefited “10 million employees for an average of 550 euros, that’s nothing.”
“It’s a win for all, not for a few”
However, the Bercy tenant believes that it is necessary to go further with “an additional third possibility”, that famous employee dividend that should concern “all companies” that pay dividends to their shareholders. “It’s not one or the other,” launches Bruno Le Maire.
“This is the logic of this employee dividend: the distribution of value. When a company makes a profit, when it can pay dividends to its shareholders, it must guarantee better remuneration to its employees”, he continues.
“Employees are the first to contribute to the success of companies, it is a form of cohesion”, he concludes.
