Private salaried employment continued to show dynamism in the third quarter in France with an increase of 0.4%, or 89,400 net job creations, according to the provisional estimate published on Tuesday by INSEE. Employment continues to increase “almost at the same rate as in the first two quarters after +0.5% in the second (+93,000 jobs) and +0.4% in the first (+88,200)”, underlines the INSEE in its statement.
In one year, the increase is 2.2%, or 445,000 jobs. At the end of September 2022, employment exceeded its pre-health crisis level, at the end of 2019, by 4.3%, or 856,800 jobs. “Study and work contracts, and in particular apprenticeship contracts, continue to contribute significantly to this dynamic,” explains the Institute of Statistics. In detail, temporary work rose again: +2.3% (or +18,300 jobs) after two consecutive quarters of decline. It is 3.9% higher than its pre-crisis level.
Employment driven by the tertiary sector
Excluding temporary work, industrial employment increased by 0.4% compared to +0.3% in the previous quarter. “While it had reached its pre-crisis level in Q2 2022, it is now 0.4% higher (i.e. +12,900 jobs) and is at its highest level since Q1 of 2015”, emphasizes the INSEE.
In construction, employment remained practically stable: +0.1% after stagnating (0.0%) in the previous quarter. However, it had increased significantly in the previous two years, so that it exceeded its level at the end of 2019 by 6.4% (+94,500 jobs) 0.5% after +0.8% (ie +60,400 jobs). “This dynamism explains most of the total increase in private salaried employment,” underlines the INSEE.
In this sector, employment exceeded by 2.7% (that is, +323,500 jobs) its level of a year before and by 5.2% that of before the crisis (that is, +601,500 jobs). worked). Employment in the non-market tertiary sector increased moderately: +0.1% after +0.4%. But it far exceeds its level at the end of 2019 (+4.4% or +114,100 jobs).
