The “Fortune Pink”, a very rare giant pink diamond, was sold at auction in Geneva on Tuesday for more than 28.3 million euros to an Asian private collector. The gem is the largest pear-pink diamond of this quality ever sold at auction, according to Christie’s, which is owned by Artémis, a holding company for the French Pinault family.
The brilliant pink diamond was sold for 24.5 million Swiss francs (24.7 million euros), or 28,436,500 Swiss francs (28,640,761 euros) with costs.
“It is a dream come true”
The sale, which lasted just four minutes, started at 17 million Swiss francs and involved three bidders over the phone. The winner won by bidding the final half million.
“Very relevant, (the diamond) was purchased by a private client from Asia,” Rahul Kadakia, international head of jewelry at Christie’s, told reporters. “It is a very exclusive group of customers who buy at this level. I am very happy that it is going to a new family that will enjoy it, that will use it, and I hope it will bring them good luck.”
The diamond had been exhibited in Geneva, then in New York, Shanghai (China), Taiwan and Singapore in October before returning to Switzerland. It had been estimated between 25 and 35 million dollars (a few euros)
