SNCF opens ticket sales for the winter season

From this Wednesday, the railway company puts its tickets on sale for the period from January 3 to March 26, 2023.

After having opened the sale of tickets for the Christmas holidays a month ago, the SNCF offers from Wednesday to book its trips on TGV Inoui and Intercités for the period from January 3 to March 26, 2023 which covers, in particular, the winter holidays. For Ouigo, it is even possible to buy a ticket until July 7.

As a reminder, the winter holidays will take place from February 4 to 20 for zone A, from February 11 to 27 for zone B and from February 18 to March 6 for zone C.

To benefit from the best prices, it is advisable to book your ticket as soon as possible, even if that means changing your plans later. In fact, the SNCF reminds you that all TGV Inoui and Intercités tickets are exchangeable and refundable free of charge up to three days before departure. For Ouigo, tickets can be exchanged up to 1h30 before departure for an amount of 10 euros.

More expensive tickets soon?

The year 2023 should be marked by an increase in the price of train tickets, while the SNCF suffers from the rise in energy prices. In mid-September, the head of the railway company, Jean-Pierre Farandou, assured that the electricity bill of SNCF Voyageurs should increase between 1,600 and 1,700 million euros in 2023.

“If we were to directly reflect (this increase) in the cost of the ticket, we would have to increase TGV tickets by 10%,” said Jean-Pierre Farandou, speaking of a quick “table corner calculation.” However, he wanted to reassure the process by promising that the SNCF would not pass on “100% of the costs to customers”.

However, a price increase seems inevitable. To limit it, the Minister of Transport, Cléments Beaune, asked the SNCF on Sunday to “work on ticket prices in a tariff shield.” The minister said that he hopes “that the increase in banknotes will in any case be less than inflation.” “And above all, protect those who need the train every day, the most modest, the young people who use the Ouigo, for example,” he said on the set of the Grand Jury RTL-LCI-Le Figaro.
