More than 1.3 million train travelers are expected for this first holiday weekend

This morning, two out of three TGVs are full in all departure directions. Many French people wander through the seasons to spend Christmas with their loved ones.

According to the latest figures from Eurostat, 15% more French people travel than in 2023, a trend that should be felt even more this winter. This weekend preceding the first week of the Christmas holidays, nearly 1.3 million people are expected at the stations, stressed the Minister of Transport, François Durovray, this Friday, December 20.

Escape from “the Parisian grayness”

But this large turnout does not seem to jeopardize the general enthusiasm. “A week of well-being in this complex period,” defends a traveler at the Lyon station who is heading to join her family in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Another traveler explains that he wants to escape the “gray Parisian climate”, while another says he is happy “to go spend Christmas with his elderly parents”. Around them, a crowd of users laden with luggage happily rush towards their respective station platforms.

During the entire Christmas holidays, 5 million tickets have already been sold on long-distance trains in France
