The government wants to increase taxes on supplementary health insurance, which will ultimately not have to increase its reimbursements for medical consultations and medications in 2025, said Health Minister Catherine Vautrin.
“We confirm the establishment of a specific contribution” for supplementary health insurance in 2025, the Cabinet said on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning on BFM, Catherine Vautrin explained that the State would ask the mutual societies to “return” to the State the increase in contributions that they had decided to request for 2025.
This increase – 6% on average according to the Mutual Society – should allow them to face the increase in their reimbursements for medical consultations and medications, instead of Health Insurance which had to reduce its contribution. But this measure decided by the Barnier Government was finally abandoned, François Bayrou confirmed on Tuesday in his general policy statement.
Increase the solidarity tax
According to press reports, the government is considering, in particular, increasing the additional solidarity tax, paid by complementary health insurance, to finance C2S, complementary health insurance for the poorest. This tax is calculated on the health contributions collected, mostly at a rate of 13.27%.
On Tuesday, the Mutualité Française denounced the government’s plan to increase taxes. Such a decision “would mechanically affect the purchasing power of the French and would be contrary to the idea of a multi-year construction that involves the players,” said Éric Chenut, president of the Mutualité.
