Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) should leave the current headquarters in Lisbon within 3 or years. The disclosure was made this Thursday by the executive president of the public bank during the Money Conference.
“As already announced, the government plans to keep the headquarters of Caixa,” which, according to Paulo Macedo, makes perfect sense given the size of the facilities.
When asked if he already had a new home, he explained that “it’s a gradual process that will take 3 or 4 years”. “Our concern is to determine what the future of Caixa will be in terms of clearing the rest of the building that is unfit for the bank.”
As for the new decree approved by the government that will oblige banks to renegotiate the housing loans of families in difficulty, Paulo Macedo believes that “the diploma is useful”, but warns that “we must be careful about nuances which are very debatable”, such as the maximum limit of 300 thousand euros in contracts.
