The country’s top bankers are meeting this morning at the Lapa Palace Hotel, in Lisbon, to discuss the current challenges facing the banking industry. Under the motto “Recession, Resilience or Survival”, the sixth edition of the Money Conference, organized by Dinheiro Vivo, Diário de Notícias and TSF, has already started and it was up to Marco Galinha, CEO of the Global Media Group, to do the opening ceremony.
Using a retrospective, the businessman recalled that exactly a year ago, the country and the world went through periods of extreme challenges caused by the pandemic, but “there was confidence”. At the beginning of 2022, the war broke out in Ukraine, the scenario became difficult and we plunged into “a new crisis”.
However, the CEO emphasized, “in the crisis there are also opportunities, and the banking sector has been able to take advantage of that”. The proof of this, he explained, is that we have witnessed rising numbers. “On Monday, Novo Banco presented the best private banking result in nine months of the year,” he said, leaving the idea of a good performance from Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), who is making the accounts public today.
