A trend that can also be explained by the rise in prices in recent months and the drop in purchasing power that it has caused in many households. In October, inflation reached 6.2% per year, according to INSEE.
77% of the French spend less on clothes
Given this, some consumers prefer to put on their warm clothes from last winter rather than go to the checkout. According to an Odoxa survey, almost 77% of the French have reduced their spending on clothing by 2022.
This change in consumer behavior is noticeable in stores. According to the Conseil du Commerce de France, traffic in city center shops and malls has dropped by almost 15% since the beginning of the year.
