Towards a bonus to repair electrical and electronic equipment

It will be from 10 to 45 euros and will come into force on December 15. At the same time, a label can be awarded to repairmen.

Promoting the repair of electrical and electronic equipment instead of their replacement is in tune with the times. And it is also a goal of the government. As of December 15, a bonus for the repair of this equipment will be launched with an endowment of 410 million euros. Its financing is provided by the manufacturers, through eco-organizations in charge of managing the end of life of the devices.

This repair voucher will be from 10 to 45 euros depending on the type of device to be repaired. According to our colleagues, it will be, for example, 10 euros for a coffee maker, 25 euros for a washing machine and 45 euros for a laptop, according to Nathalie Yserd, general director of Ecosystem, in charge of recycling this equipment.

But also 15 euros for a vacuum cleaner, drill/screwdriver, DVD player, home theater, musical instrument, bicycle, scooter, 20 euros for a game console, speaker, 25 euros for a wine cellar, washing machine, fridge/freezer, tablet, telephone mobile and 30 euros for a television, video projector.

The year 2024 will open up to deep fryers, printers, food processors and other microwave ovens. Mobile air conditioners, hair dryers, fans, etc. will be included in 2025.

Products under warranty (legal, commercial or through insurance) will be excluded, says AFP.

90% of breakdowns are not repaired today

In concrete terms, all you have to do is go to the ecosystem site.eco to identify a network of repairers who are involved in the device, the bonus will be immediately deducted from the invoice. At the same time, a QualiRépar label can be awarded under conditions to repairers. We have 500 so far.

The goal is to increase by 20% the number of electrical and electronic equipment repaired each year in France, that is, 12 million by 2027, while 90% of breakdowns are currently not repaired.

Remember that from January 1, 2021, the mention of the repairability index, introduced by the anti-waste law, is mandatory for several product families.

Similar to an energy label, its purpose is to provide information on the durability of the equipment in question. This logo, which ranges from bright red to dark green, accompanied by a score from 1 to 10, should make consumers aware of the need to repair the product from the moment of purchase.

With this index, the State hopes to achieve, in the long term, a repair rate of electrical and electronic products of 60%.
