Faced with a shortage of eggs, the United States is looking to provide Europe in Europe

The United States government has begun to contact several European countries to provide eggs, while the country faces a shortage due to an avian flu epidemic.

He had promised to quickly lower the prices of his inauguration. But two months after his arrival at the White House, it is clear that Donald Trump has not yet managed to resolve the egg crisis in the United States.

For several months, the country has faced a shortage due to the Avian influenza epidemic that has already decimated more than 26 million chickens that have been from the beginning of the year. Result: 59% flambé prices for a year in February, after +96% in January. For example, the box of twelve eggs today reaches $ 8.47 on average in New York and exceeds $ 15 in some places, according to a recently published study. What bother Americans who are consumers of large eggs (277 eggs consumed per capita and per year on average).

The US government, which struggles to stop this totally anecdotal phenomenon, has resolved to contact certain European countries, including Denmark, to ask how many eggs they would be ready to provide in the United States, reports Reuters.

“We are still waiting to receive more Washington directives in the next stages, but we have an estimate of the number of eggs that could be provided in the United States (assuming that they meet all import requirements),” he read a letter directed by the Department of Agriculture to several European producing countries.

An agreement with Türkiye

This request was welcomed with astonishment for certain producers despite the fact that the Trump administration launched a commercial war against Europe and the US president threatened to annex Greenland, the territory of the Danish crown.

However, the Danish Association of Egg Producers has confirmed that it has received this letter and indicated that it would examine the American application, while warning that there were no production surpluses in Europe.

The Netherlands and Poland would also have received the letter from the Department of Agriculture. As well as Swedish and Norwegian producers. The fact is that many of them judge that American demand can face the hygiene rules in force because eggs must be washed to export to the United States, which is not authorized in the EU.

Waiting for possible imports from EU countries, the United States, which plan to import eggs per billion dollars, have signed an agreement with Turkey for the purchase of 420 million eggs this year, six times more than normal. However, a level that remains insufficient to respond to shortage.
