Clothing tests, code review… La Poste opens its “new generation” offices

A dozen new generation post offices will open by the end of the year. By 2027, all 7,000 post offices will be offering the new postal services.

La Poste will open a dozen “new generation” offices by the end of the year, activating the renovation component of its investment plan, the group announced in a press release on Wednesday.

About ten La Poste offices should open before the end of the year and another 70 are expected by 2024 with the aim of completing the renovation of the 7,000 post offices by 2027, within an investment plan of 800 million euros, from of which 500 million euros are reserved for renewal.

Among the changes announced, new “more intuitive and ergonomic” digital automata and terminals, in particular for buying pre-paid envelopes and packaging, weighing and franking mail or a package, or even editing a RIB from La Banque Postale.

La Poste is also planning “parcel stations” to be tested in 2023 in certain offices “so that customers can open their packages, check the conformity of their purchases, leave their packaging for recycling, try on clothes bought online in a fitting room and manage package returns”, explains the group.

No need for ID

According to the various offices of La Poste, it will be possible to pass the “highway code or boat license”, or even count on concierge services.

Bank advisers will be “equipped with laptops that allow for videoconference meetings and touch screens.” Account managers, now dressed in a new black jacket in the colors of La Poste and La Banque Postale, will have smartphones to streamline processing of the simplest actions, such as sending and collecting packages.

Customers will now be able to collect their packages without presenting their identity document as long as they present their La Poste Digital Identity.

La Poste has 17,000 “contact points”, including 7,000 post offices – compared to 10,000 ten years ago -, 7,000 municipal postal agencies and 3,000 post-traders. Adding relief points and slogans, it has 35,000 “service points”, with the goal of increasing it to 40,000 in 2025.
