“There are 3 million pieces on an airplane”: the Chief of Airbus describes the extraordinary complexity of Trump’s customs tasks

During the General Assembly of the Aircraft Manufacturer, Guillaume Faury recalled that importers depended to pay the customs tasks and presented the immense complexity in its commercial war industry launched by the US President.

It depends on customers who import airplanes to pay the additional cost linked to customs tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, said Airbus Guillaume Faury chief in the group’s general assembly.

“Obviously, they do not like to be in this situation, so we see with them how to manage the situation. There are many potential forms and ideas” to relieve its impact, but first it is necessary to understand “the nature and evolution of these customs rights, it is not the same if it has 20%, 10% or zero,” he added.

“Reorganize our flows”

Donald Trump’s customs surcharge amounts to 10% for all countries in the world, and could increase to 20% at the end of the 90 -day suspension period announced by the US president, which would weigh in the Imported Airbus in the United States.

The European aircraft manufacturer is for its “exposed” part to customs tariffs when the activities of its American factory in Mobile, Alabama, said Guillaume Faury.

He also recalled that the perspectives for 2025 announced in February did not take into account the new customs tasks, which suggests that there could be changes.

Uncertainties related to commercial conflicts weigh on a globalized supply chain and already have an impact on the aeronautical sector.

China blocks the Boeing

The Chief of Delta Airlines, Ed Bastian, had said last week that he did not intend to pay customs tasks in the Airbus from which he expects the delivery this year.

According to Bloomberg, China has ordered its airlines to suspend any reception of Boeing aircraft due to customs tasks, but also “to stop any purchase of equipment and spare parts for airplanes from US companies.”

The general director of Ryanair, the first airline in Europe in number of passengers, threatened Tuesday to delay the receptions of the aircraft ordered in Boeing to cost more expensive.
