“Climate threat”: 400 million euros from the State to finance projects related to industry decarbonation

The state will finance the calls to projects related to industry decarbonation to around 400 million euros.

France will finance for around 400 million euros in new projects related to industry decarbonation, as more boilers of ecological factories, the Ministries of the Economy and Industry announced on Friday. To do this, new calls for projects will be launched as part of the 2030 France Investment Plan, despite budgetary limitations, which should not “rule out the climatic threat,” he justified Bercy during a report with journalists.

Industrialists who will respond to these calls for projects can benefit significantly from subsidies to replace the gas boiler in their factory, used, for example, for dry plasters, by boiler rooms using biomass, of plant or animal origin. Preparatory work will also be financed to help factories with large industrial areas, such as Dunkerque, to coordinate their decarbonation actions, for example, with heat networks.

Calls for projects will also be intended for small businesses, for “small rapid victories for decarbonation,” according to Bercy, such as the construction of a pipe to connect to a heat network, financed by subsidies or reimbursable advances. The winners of these calls to projects will be invited to communicate to the Government the effects on their decarbonation of financed projects.

“Innovative Technologies”

“The government has made public finance control a priority, but that does not rule out the climatic threat,” said Bercy, remembering France’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. In the same way, “the global commercial context cannot obscure the climatic emergency,” said Economy Minister Éric Lombard, cited in a press release.

Released in 2021 by Emmanuel Macron, France 2030 is an investment plan of 54 billion euros for five years, destined to support companies in key sectors to “catch up with the French industrial delay”, help “innovative technologies” and “support the ecological transition.”

After an acceleration in 2023, France, such as several developed countries, marks the steps in decarbonation, with only 1.8% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions in 2024, the hottest year ever measured in the world. And if the energy sector has registered the highest fall, the heavy industry struggles to decarbonize.
