The dew of phytosanitary products in banana forests, in certain vines or in particularly steep agricultural plots will now be authorized in France, but it will be framed. The law that allowed such differentials, signed on Wednesday by Emmanuel Macron during his trip to the meeting, was published on Thursday in the official magazine.
This law authorizes the spray of drones of certain phytosanitary products “in agricultural plots that include a slope greater than or equal to 20%, in banana and mothers of portnotets”, to “fight against a serious health danger that cannot dominate by other means.” Therefore, in the future, pesticides can be applied, for example, using drones in certain steep vineyards of Alsace or Rhone.
For “temporal” use
However, this type of propagation will remain supervised and can only be authorized “temporarily”, through a joint decree of the ministers responsible for the environment, agriculture and health. It should also be limited to situations in which drone spray provides “obvious advantages for human health and the environment” compared to a classic application of phytosanitary products, by land.
The defenders of this practice judge that it makes it possible to eliminate agricultural workers from the propagation area and reduce the amount of products used thanks to greater precision, while their detractors consider that it maintains the dependence of agriculture to pesticides. The propagation of drones of phytosanitary products was prohibited so far, except in very supervised cases of “serious health danger.”
