“There is no doubt. There are another 364 days to open,” Sophie Binet reacted, interviewed this Sunday in LCI. “It is a social conquest and we are there to preserve it,” insisted the general secretary of the second center of the Union.
A bill for centrist senators has been submitted, with the support of the Government, so that employees of establishments and services “whose operation or opening are necessary due to the limitations of production, activity or the needs of the public” can work on May 1.
This initiative intends to respond to the controversy of the last days around the bakers, some of whom had suffered an unexpected labor inspection in this traditional holiday inspection last year.
“I remind you that on May 1, bosses can work if you wish, but for workers, it is a vacation, it is unemployed, it is a conqueror of the fight,” Sophie Binet said.
The union representative refuted the argument that the employees would be volunteers: “That was exactly what they told us on Sunday telling us, anyway, on Sunday you are paid twice, so we must leave employees who want to work on Sunday.”
“The result is that we completely liberalize Sunday work (…) and more and more, there are increases of 10% or no increase at all and even less volunteer,” he defended.
On the contrary, deputy RN Julien Odoul said it was necessary to “obviously (…) change the law because today we need to free work (…) to encourage people to work.”
“May 1 is Labor Day, it is not the Fiesta de la Ocioso, it is not the party of assistance. Despite the CGT that wants to send us back to the 19th century,” he said.
