61 billion dollars: Vietnam puts the package to enter the Club of countries that offer high -speed trains

The country has validated the project of a high -speed line between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Ville. The largest conglomerate in the country has positioned itself to carry out a gigantic work.

Vietnam intends to be part of the club in countries that offer high railway speed in particular to better attract investors. At the end of 2024, Vietnamese Parliament approved a project to build a line of high -speed train Connecting the capital of Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh Ville.

The contract is colossal: at least $ 61 billion for more than 1,500 kilometers between the capital, in the north and economic heart of the country, in the south. The duration of the trip between the two cities will fall from 30 hours to about five.

“It is the desire of the population and the will of the political system to have a high -speed international line,” underlines the assistant planning and investment minister, Tran Quoc Phuong, who is winning a GDP of 0.97 points per year on average.

This new railway connection must have 23 decisions in 20 different cities and provinces, largely improving interregional traffic.

End of work in 2035 or even 2030?

The construction is supposed to only have been for the start of the expected site in 2027 with delivery in 2035, indicates the project voted by the deputies. To carry out the project, the most important conglomerate in the country, Twentyroup, announced Friday that it has offered its services. In a press release, Venspeed (a company created recently within Empire Twentyroup) promises the end of the work for 2030, five years before the date mentioned during its validation by parliamentarians.

It also undertakes to contribute 20% of the capital, or about $ 12.3 billion and proposes that the State grant a zero rate loan for the remaining 80%, which excludes costs related to financial compensation and relocation within the framework of the development of the territories in question.

The government said they wanted to lead to a decision before Thursday, to present it to the parliamentarians of the National Assembly.

Twentyroup is present in health, real estate, education or technologies. It also has Vinfast, an electric car manufacturer at Nasdaq. He is arrested by the richest man in the country, Pham Nhat Vuong.

23 countries around the world have high -speed lines

With this line, Vietnam will be added to the 23 countries of the planet that circulate high -speed trains. 20 of them have networks of more than 100 kilometers and seven networks greater than 1,000 kilometers.

It is China that has the most extensive network (and with much) with more than 40,000 kilometers of high speed lines in front:

  • Spain: 3,917 kilometers
  • Japan: 3,146 kilometers
  • France: 2,735 kilometers
  • Germany: 1,631 kilometers
  • Türkiye: 1,232 kilometers
  • Finland: 1,120 kilometers (figures at the end of 2023)

In addition to this high-speed line between Hanoi in Ho Chi Minh-Ville, the country also wishes to build a conventional 390 kilometers that connects the Port city of Haiphong with Lao Cai, through Hanoi, south of China. Total cost: more than $ 8 billion. It must strengthen the links between the two border countries and facilitate trade.

In fact, it will serve large manufacturing sites in Vietnam, where Samsung, Foxconn, Sticker And other global electronics giants, for many depend on the regular arrival of China’s components.

It will replace the old active line, built more than a century ago during the French Indochina period. The trains, destined for the transport of passengers and goods, will operate at a speed of 160 km/h, against 50 km/h.

For this line, China will finance part of the project through loans that are part of the World Infrastructure Program called “New Silk Roads”.
