Donald Trump is responsible. The US president threatened this Friday, May 23 to establish customs duties of 50% on Friday 23% in the assets of the European Union as of June 1 against 10% today.
“It is very difficult to deal with the EU, which was created in the first place to take advantage of the United States from a commercial point of view. (…) Our discussions are not going anywhere. Under these conditions I recommend that you impose 50% of customs duties in the EU, as of June 1. There are no customs duties on products manufactured in the United States,” he wrote on his social platform of truth.
The White House tenant notably denounced “the powerful commercial barriers” of the EU, as well as “its tub, its ridiculous sanctions against companies, its commercial barriers, its monetary manipulation, their unfair and against US companies” that “led to a commercial deficit with the United States of more than $ 250 billion per year, a completely unacceptable figure.”
