The telephone interview on Sunday between the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the US president, Donald Trump, gave a new impulse to the commercial negotiations between the two blocks, said a spokesman for the European Commission on Monday. After this interview, Donald Trump returned to his threat of imposing customs duties of 50% in the products of the European Union next month, restoring the deadline of July 9 to allow conversations between the two parties to achieve an agreement.
The spokesman for the European Commission said the appeal had been initiated by Ursula von der Leyen, but refused to give details about the discussions between the two leaders. The European Commission of Commerce, Maros Sefcovic, will be around the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick on Monday afternoon, the European Commission said.
The European Commissioner in charge of Commerce Maros Sefcovic will also change by phone on Monday afternoon with the Secretary of State of the United States for the Howard Litenick trade to continue negotiations about customs tasks, a committee spokesman said.
Donald Trump announced on Sunday an extension of the rupture in customs rights aimed at the European Union until July 9, after “a very good conversation” with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
