The National Consumer Protection Network and the European Commission have notified Shein a series of practices on their platform that violate the EU consumption law.

The National Consumer Protection Network and the European Commission have notified Shein a certain number of practices on their platform that violate the EU consumer law, according to a press release.

Brussels denounced a “wide range” of potential crimes, including “false discounts”, “false deadlines” to boost consumption, “misleading products” or “deceptive accusations” in terms of sustainability of products.

A month to answer

The EU also points out that “consumers cannot easily contact Shein for questions or complaints.”

“This includes the possibility of inflicting fines on the basis of Shein’s annual billing in the EU member states in question,” adds the European Executive, which specifies that the Chinese group now has one month to respond to the conclusions of the report and propose commitments.

The Chinese origin platform now has a month to respond to the concerns raised by the European Commission and Belgian, French, Irish and Dutch consumption authorities.

A European survey points to Shein and Temu since February

In February, the European Commission launched an investigation aimed at Shein and Temu, another Chinese business platform and the fulfillment of the products sold on their sites. A group spokesman said that Shein worked “constructively” with the authorities “to demonstrate our commitment to respect EU laws and regulations.

Shein, who moved his headquarters from Nankin to Singapore in 2022 and presented documents before the British competence authority, points to an OPI in London in the middle of the year.
