And France is in the front line. For Donald Trump, our country is guilty of two titles with, in addition to the minimum tax negotiated by the OECD, its 5% GAFAM tax adopted last November by the deputies. These measures have angry American technology companies and the US president.
A surcharge in private companies and investors
Therefore, if this law is adopted (American senators must still decide on it), all would approve there: institutional investors (sovereign funds, pension funds, government entities) as private investors and companies with assets in the United States. The surcharge will be established by 5% the first year and will increase all year, up to a maximum of 20% in 2028. It would be added to the taxes already paid (corporate tax, in dividends or even royalties).
In case of adoption, the measure could have the effect of thunder for multinationals established in the United States and pay in private dividends. “It would be almost impossible for a citizen or a French company to receive any income in the United States without having to submit to this tax,” said Alan Cole, Economist of Tax Foundation, cited by the echoes.
