Renewable, Nuclear … The Energy Roadmap begins its Marathon in the National Assembly

The energy programming of several years details the energy objectives of France around the action assigned to nuclear and that with renewable energies in the next ten years to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.

The deputies analyze Monday at the Committee on Economic Affairs on the Gremillet’s invoice for “Energy Programming” before their examination by the National Assembly in mid -June that will open the way to the publication of the Energy Road map in France. The examination of this text, already adopted in the first reading of the Senate, will be carried out before the publication of the Decree on Energy Programming of several years (PPE), announced Prime Minister François Bayrou, during the debate without vote at the end of April on the sovereignty of France’s energy.

At stake: the new energy roadmap of France for the period 2025-2035, which must put the country on the path of carbon neutrality in 2050, but awakens strong divisions to share between nuclear and renewable energy. This PPE, in preparation for several years, details the energy objectives of France around the action assigned to nuclear and that with renewable energies.

Bayrou says that the PPE “is not written in advance”

François Bayrou was forced to make a gesture towards the national demonstration, which left the threat of censorship and, with the parliamentarians to the right and the center, refused to let these guidelines pass without vote. The actors in the sector expect this decree to launch tenders, especially for the wind in the sea. During the part of the Senate of this debate on May 6, François Bayrou said that this PPE “is not written in advance” and promised the parliamentarians to “listen to them carefully” before the publication of the decree, facing a hemicle dominated by an alliance centered on the right that begs a more resolved recovery.

It has given priority to “reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels” and defended an “electrical mixture” that associates a “basic pro-nuclear orientation” with “reasoned support for renewable energy.”

Half of the participation of fossil fuels in consumption within 10 years

A nuclear supporter, the RN wants to reduce the participation of wind and solar energies in the combination of energy of France, arguing that they are expensive, intermittent and rejected by the French. Part of the left, however, criticizes the proportion of the effort dedicated to nuclear.

An IFOP survey conducted on behalf of the energetic Engie, himself a renewable energy producer is shown, on the contrary, that 84% of the French have a good image of renewable energies, even among the supporters of the extreme right that are 77% to see them with a good eye. The survey, conducted from April 3 to 16, 2025 and published on Wednesday, is related to a sample of 12,029 people representative of the French population, far beyond the uses of these studies, to strengthen their relevance, emphasizes Engie.

The planning project provides at this stage to recover the participation of fossil fuels in energy consumption of approximately 60% in 2023 to 42% in 2030, then 30% in 2035. Break the previous PPE, which planned to close reactors, the new text acts an revival of the atom, with the construction of six new EPR2. The ambition of the rhythm of the deployment of renewable energies is confirmed, particularly for the wind in the sea.
