In the Tarn, in Montirat, a Banking Agency for Credit Agricole has been closed since December 31, 2024. Very bad news for the 1,000 inhabitants of this city in front of this phenomenon that seems to extend in France.
“It bothers us (…) This is not good at all,” says a resident with BFMTV, forced to move to another city to consult a banking agency.
In Montirat, only an automatic distributor remains in office, but for how long? On the side of the merchants of the municipality, several of them fear a disappearance from the economic fabric of the city.
“An accelerator of populism”?
The City Municipal Council tried to oppose the closure of the credit agricole bank in Montirat, in vain. Several elected officials from Occitania have sent a letter to the Credit Agricole Director. In the TAN, nine municipalities are affected by the closure of banking agencies in their neighborhood.
“We fear that all this is an accelerator of populism, because many of our citizens will have the feeling of being abandoned, especially in our rural sectors,” Philippe Folliot alarm, senator of the president of Tarn of the centrist alliance.
In France, 3,300 banking agencies have closed in five years. According to the UFC -quir Choisir, BNP Paribas plans to close 500 agencies for 2030. And Société Générara will have eliminated 600 points of sale. A maneuver that is part of its merger with the north credit.
