“For the first time, Rafale fuselages will occur outside of France”: Dassault relocates part of its production in India

Dassault Aviation and Indian Industrial Tata signed an agreement to produce fuselages of Rafale’s fighting aircraft in India.

India strengthens its defense industry with the help of France. The Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited groups announced Thursday that they have signed production transfer agreements so that the fuselage of explosion combat aircraft for India and other international markets are manufactured in the country.

The first fuselage sections must leave the production site dedicated to Hyderabad, in southern India, during fiscal year 2028, the two groups stressed in a joint statement.

The factory has the ability to represent up to two complete fuselages per month, according to Dassault Aviation. For Tata Advanced Systems Limited, these agreements “mark an important step to strengthen the country’s aeronautical manufacturing and in the support of global supply chains.”

For Sukaran Singh, CEO of Tata Advanced Systems Limited, “reflects the remarkable progress made by India in the implementation of a modern and robust ecosystem for aeronautical production, capable of attending global platforms.”

A contract and industrial counterpart

At the end of April, India signed an agreement with France with the acquisition of 26 new Rafale combat planes produced by the Dassault Aviation Group, this time destined for its war war.

Evoked for the first time in 2023 during a visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in France, this order is added to a first of 36 combat planes already made by India.

This southern Asia giant has become the most important client of the French export plane with 62 units.

The agreement signed last April also provided “technological transfers for the integration of local weapons in India”, as well as factories “for the production of the rafale fuselage” and “the maintenance and repair of the engines of sensors and weapons in India.” It should generate the creation of several thousand jobs in India.

The first copies of the Indian Marina Rafale version must be delivered in 2030.

The amount of the second order amounted to $ 7.4 billion (6.5 billion euros), while the first 36 -aircraft contract was estimated at $ 9.4 billion (8.3 billion euros).
