By leaving the TNT, Canal+ says “save” around 20 million euros per year

The Canal+ Group evokes a “very positive” economic impact of the withdrawal of its four channels paid by TNT.

Having retired its four paid TNT channels (digital land television) will allow the Canal+ Group to “save” about 20 million euros per year by eliminating transmission costs, he said Friday at his general meeting. “We made the decision to leave the TNT paid: it was yesterday to save money and with a very positive impact for Canal+ from an economic point of view,” said the president of the Executive Board, Maxime Saada.

The “fixed costs” of the distribution in TNT were “of the order of 5 million euros per year per chain, so it is significant,” he developed. Especially because the number of subscribers analyzed by the Canal+ channels through the DTT decoder was “in strong decline in recent years.”

This is the reason why the group has “preferred to favor a migration” of these subscribers “on other platforms” (Internet box, satellite …), to obtain “great savings in technical diffusion costs,” concluded Amandine Ferré.

Four retired paid channels

Channel+ had announced in December that it would withdraw its four paid TNT channels in early June (Canal+, Canal+ Cinema, Canal+ Sport, Planet). He had justified this decision for the non -renewal of the frequency of his free C8 channel and “an increasingly restrictive tax and a regulatory environment.” Since Friday, the number 4 of the Canal+ Channel in the TNT has been assumed by France 4 as part of a great reorganization of the numbering decided by the ARCOM, the audiovisual regulator.

In addition, the Canal+ Group announced on Friday that a dispute had ended with the National Cinema Center (CNC) at the end of an agreement. This dispute was referring to the calculation of the TV service collected by the CNC. The agreement allows Canal+ not to have to pay about 90 million euros for the 1920s to 2023. On the other hand, another litigation continues with the tax authorities on VAT rates applicable to the group (10% or 20%). This dispute is related to 655 million euros.

“Actively diéologos with the tax authorities to find a solution as quickly as possible,” said Amandine Ferré.
