The Senate, dominated by the right-wing opposition, came to the aid of winegrowers and ranchers this Saturday to prevent their family farms from falling into the hands of “foreign investors”, approving amendments to the budget project that reduce the taxation of endowments and farms
sharp rise of land
“This system aims to protect family farms and vineyards, by reducing the tax on donations and inheritances when one or more heirs want to take over the farm, and the other heirs agree to keep the alienated property and leave it available to buyers for 25 years. said the senator.
Socialists, Independents and the RDSE with a radical majority have also introduced amendments to allow farmers and viticulturists, whose land has increased considerably, especially in the wine field, to pass it on to the next generation. The amendments were approved despite the “unfavorable opinion” of the Minister of Public Accounts Gabriel Attal.
Agriculture Minister “Marc Fesneau has already announced a bill to be presented in early 2023 with a dimension on agricultural land,” he explained. “The debates we have show how much this legislative vector is needed to allow real debates. You have to take the topics in the correct order, ”he added.
These reforms were adopted during the first reading examination by the senators of the finance bill for 2023. The government will be able to make them disappear using article 49.3 of the Constitution in the National Assembly.
