The French automation manufacturer Renault assured on Sunday, June 8 that he was contacted by the Ministry of Defense to settle in Ukraine to produce drones for the Ukrainian and French army, but has not yet made “any decision.”
According to Franceinfo, which does not detail its sources, Renault and a French defense SME plan to open production lines located “a few tens or hundreds of kilometers from the front” in Ukraine.
This information was disclosed two days after a statement by Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, announcing “a completely unprecedented association where a large company that produces French cars (…) allies with a French defense SME to put together production lines in Ukraine to produce drones.”
4.5 million drones used by Ukraine in 2025
These drones, whose model has not been specified, will be used mainly in the Ukrainian army “, but we will also benefit our own French armies so that they have a tactical and operational training that adheres to the reality” of the conflict in Ukraine, said Sébastien Lecornu on Friday.
Ukraine intends to use more than 4.5 million drones in 2025, which are 70% responsible for the destruction of enemy equipment in the front.
The French army, which has a few thousand drones, seeks to catch up in the field.
They will also provide a return of the experience of how they use these drones in this war.
