“Ecology is not sacrificial”: it is possible to combine the protection of the ocean with economic perspectives

Working for the environment is not synonymous with investments with losses. Otherwise.

Investing in sustainable activities can be profitable. Before the UN Summit in the ocean, Monaco chose to improve successful entrepreneurs committed to the “blue economy.”

The explorer participated in the forum on the economy and finance linked to the ocean, organized on Saturday and Sunday in the Principality. Its Impulse Solar Foundation listed 1,600 reconciling economy and ecology solutions.

This may be the case with lasting fuels, the ecological concrete that promotes biodiversity or tastothermal energy. This technology allows the coastal areas to condition the air conditioning its buildings by looking for cold at sea bottom instead of gourmet electricity, sometimes produced from oil, a source of global heating.

Certain solutions presented in Monaco are more surprising, such as the commitment of the Dutch company Protix on black soldiers flies, insects capable of transforming organic waste into proteins and lipids.

Reduced powdered, then they are used in animal power, especially in aquaculture, which allows to reduce the amount of fish used simply to feed agricultural fish.

Run 15 years ago, Protix has been operating a large factory since 2019 since 2019 near Hague and is preparing to export its model.

In the opposite direction, from the sea to the earth, the Americans of Symbrosia have developed Seagraze, a food supplement based on red algae for ruminants.

A very small amount is sufficient to increase power performance by 8% while reducing methane emissions by these animals by 80%, which represents 5% of greenhouse gas emissions in the world.

“Green Refund”

Founded in 2018, the company already has weight partners such as the Agrifood Danone giant and its current contracts cover 700,000 animals for an average annual income of $ 48 million in the next five years, explains its CEO Alexia Akbaye.

It was also launched in 2018, Matter attacks microplastics thanks to Regen, a self -limpized filtration technique capable of capturing 80% of this poison of the seas and the organizations that live there. It is applicable at the time of the textile industry, to the purification stations and the national washing machines.

For textile factories in particular, subject to expensive regulations on the quality of the waters they reject, “it is not a green bonus, it is a green reimbursement, because they save 20% of its water invoice,” he assures the CEO, Adam Root.

The British company has invested 10 million pounds since its creation and hopes to reach balance in the coming years, thanks to associations with Patagonia, Nike or H&M.

Even in front of the plastic tsunami, Plastic For Change, based in India, has created a recycled plastic sector validated by fair trade labels.

On the one hand, they offer a reassuring frame for Ragpickers battalions and, on the other, they provide a constant quality plastic to interested companies.

Created in 2011, the company reached the financial balance in 2023 and sees its billing tripler every year for six years, he says.

“But we are still alone on the surface, our goal is to integrate a million Ragpickers. This is not an issue that can bring billions, it is an issue that can bring billions of millions,” he says.
