France’s support for Ukraine is unwavering. This is the message launched by Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces, in an interview published in the JDD. It also ensures that deliveries of weapons will continue, the amount of which has reached 550 million euros to date.
This 5th place would be recent. According to the Kiel Institute, France ranked eighth in October behind Norway, Poland, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. At the top of this ranking, the United States with aid of 52.3 billion dollars.
A maintenance plant in Slovakia
Since the beginning of the conflict, France has sent equipment to Kyiv, such as the 18 Caesar guns taken from Army stocks. According to a video uploaded to social networks, a Caesar would have been destroyed by a Russian attack. This information was not confirmed to us by the General Staff of the French armies. But the destroyed howitzer could be recovered and used to repair others.
In a few weeks, a logistics site will be operational in Slovakia. Directed by KNDS, its mission will be to carry out maintenance operations, but also the conservation of the equipment produced by its two subsidiaries KMW and Nexter.
A request for radars “under study”
If the Césares are the best known, France has provided other equipment: milan missiles and Mistral, about sixty VAB (front armored vehicles), HDP-2A2 anti-tank mines, NRBC (nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical) protection, state-of-the-art night vision goggles. She also promised to send TRF1 towed guns.
In recent deliveries, Kyiv received from France two Crotale missile batteries for surface-to-air defense and two multiple rocket launchers (LRUs) for deep ground attacks. According to the minister, the Ukrainian army is requesting radars. This request is “under study”.
Parliament also voted a support fund of 200 million euros. It allows Ukrainians to order equipment from French companies or ensure the maintenance of already delivered systems. It could also be used to buy “bastion vehicles or floating bridges,” says Sébastien Lecornu.
In addition to this financial and material aid, France has decided to train Ukrainian soldiers. Until then, the details of this support had not been specified.
