It has allowed countless large families to travel by train at reduced prices since 1921. The famous SNCF Large Families card, which allows price reductions ranging from 30 to 75%, is changing.
In matters of opening up the market to competition, it is the State, through the Ministry of Transport and the National Printing Office, which is now in charge and no longer the SNCF.
“In addition to a revised format and graphics, this new card is based on a faster and dematerialized order process, which will facilitate the process for large families,” writes the Ministry for Ecological Transition in a press release.
Conditions unchanged
The new card can be ordered like this from January 2 on the portal www.carte-familles-nombreuses.gouv.fr.
The current SNCF card application service will be closed from December 5, 2022. “In the meantime, if your card expires in December 2022 or January 2023, don’t worry: your cards can still be used on the SNCF network throughout the month.” January 2023″ we can read on this site.
The eligibility conditions for the card (from three minor children per family or having had or raised at least 5 children) and the railway bonus levels remain unchanged. Administrative costs will amount to 18 euros in 2023 regardless of the number of cards requested.
Reduction rate according to the number of minor children
3 children: 30%,
4 children: 40%,
5 children: 50%,
6 or more children: 75%
Dematerialized versions of the cards will be available online as soon as your file is validated, while paper cards will be shipped within 3 weeks.
Double the number of cards.
With this new approach, the Government hopes to increase the number of beneficiaries of this card to 1.7 million people compared to the current 850,000.
“This renewal of the large family card responds to two clear objectives, that of facilitating the daily lives of families and acting in favor of their purchasing power, simplifying their use of the train and making it cheaper. There are still too many families that can access it. The development of the railway has an important role to play in the ecological transition and for this, we must make the train more accessible, especially for families with several children, for whom the car is sometimes the reference means of transport. This card is a boost for more train travel,” comment Clément Beaune, Delegate Minister in charge of Transport.
