22,000 registered tourists to leave Israel, while the conflict with Iran continues, according to the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, cited by the New York Times.
40,000 tourists were in Israel at the beginning of the war on June 13. Around 32,000 are still in the country, the ministry said in a statement, adding that some had left Israel by land crossing points with Jordan and Egypt.
For its part, Quai d’Orsay has established a form, available online, to record French tourists who wish to evacuate the country.
Israeli airspace has been closed since the beginning of the fight, almost a week ago, with the exception of special flights destined for the repatriation of Israeli blocked abroad.
Number of tourists divided by four
Tourist assistance has collapsed since October 7, 2023. The number of tourists of residents who entered Israel fell 64% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to a note from the General Directorate of the Treasury. Only 890,000 international visitors entered the country, compared to 2.5 million in 2023 and almost 4 million in 2019.
The majority of tourists who visited Israel in 2024 came from the United States, France, Great Britain and Russia. At the same time, Israeli trips abroad have decreased significantly (-25% compared to 2019), due to the contraction of air traffic.
“The mobilization of the Israeli hotels government to accommodate residents evacuated from conflict zones allowed to limit the collapse of the hotel sector. This represented a total of 622,000 nights on average per month, generating a total income of 4,400 million Shekels (1.1 billion euros) for the hotel sector in 2024, financed by the State.”
Since the beginning of the year, Israel has imposed an electronic entry authorization to foreign visitors, similar to that imposed in the United States, to strengthen their safety since this document integrates personal data.
