“The liquid oxygen is stored in the tank and is injected into the combustion chamber, which contains the fuel, which is in a solid state,” explains Sylvain Batailard.
A project that germinated during a doctoral thesis on the hybrid propulsion of one of the co -founders. Created in 2019 and supported by the CNES and the European Space Agency, the new company benefited from the support of 35 million euros in France 2030, raised 10 million euros in private funds and already carried out three “static” tests. These were carried out with the help of the General Directorate of Armament Missile Tests, in a place near Bordeaux.
Next objective: the launch of a suborbital demonstration rocket, ‘Wand One’ planned in 2026, to validate technology. Go to the orbital in 2027, with the ‘Wander’ Wander ‘pitcher (OB-1, to pronounce “Obi-Wan” as the character of Star Wars), to place up to 250 kg of payload satellites.
Dual technology
Ultimately, Hyprspace points to 12 to 15 launches per year, for civil and military markets. Because a wand is “at the crossroads of what is important today: space and the army,” said Sylvain Batailard.
Because if the objective of the wand is to place in orbit of satellite constellations, the pitcher may also be interested in armies, in particular the Air Force and space, to develop the ballistic capabilities of France. “We explore all possible use cases in the field of defense,” confirms the co-manager.
Hyprspace’s ambition is to be a dual company, a primary condition to be competitive in the market. The new company intends to reduce the cost of orbit, but also simplify the production costs of the industrial part, in fact, in fact.
