The regulation updating the meal allowance for public administration officials from the current 4.77 euros to 5.20 euros was published this Friday in Diário da República, effective October 1st.
According to Regulation No. 280/2022, updating the meal subsidy is “necessary” given the time that has passed since the last increase, in August 2017, and given “the current context of inflation which directly affects the strength of purchase by employees and the need to contribute to mitigating its consequences by strengthening the social benefits granted by the public employer as a contribution to the expenses arising from meals”.
The increase in the meal allowance from 4.77 euros to 5.20 euros, effective in October 2022, was provided for in the agreement signed on October 24 between the government and the trade union structures of UGT, the Federation of Trade Unions of Public Administration (Fesap ) and the Union of the State Technical Staff (STE).
