Facilitate wind and photovoltaic and increase the storage of renewable energies: Spain’s plan to avoid a new electric megapanne

The decree provides a relaxation of the deadlines for the installation of new photovoltaic projects and incentives to develop storage in these renewable energy production sites, in particular the establishment of “batteries”.

The Spanish government on Tuesday adopted a series of measures aimed at avoiding a new electric megapanne in the country, with particular incentives to develop storage, almost two months after the cut that affected the entire Iberian Peninsula.

Revolves around strengthening supervision, the ability to control the tension and depreciation of electrical oscillations in the network, a “fundamental” factor according to the minister, such as “storage, flexibility and electrification.”

Among the measures of this decree are a relaxation of the deadlines for the installation of new wind and photovoltaic winds and incentives to develop storage in these renewable energy production sites, in particular the establishment of “batteries”. They confirm the support provided by the Spanish government on the left to the renewable energy sector, a time criticized for its supposed role in the Megapanne of April 28, and finally took the case for the various surveys conducted in this event.

Failures in the Ree Network Manager

According to an expert report supervised by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the decomposition was caused by a phenomenon of survival that led to a “chain reaction”, aggravated by the disconnections of certain electricity production sites, at the initiative of the operators. This report has increased both failures to the Manager of the Spanish Network Ree, which had planned that “weaker day since the beginning of 2025” device to regulate tension and amortize oscillations in the network, and in electricity producers, which would have discounted “inappropriate forms”.

These criticisms were rejected by Ree, who said in his own report that “he carried out the appropriate calculations and made the relevant decisions” to manage the fluctuations of the tension, and rejected the failure in the companies that manage the production sites, which would not have “respected their obligations.” An analysis played by the Association of Spanish Electric Companies (AELEC), which brings together the main Spanish producers, which indicated the “poor management” of Ree on Monday “, the sole responsible for the security of the supply and control of voltage levels.”
