At the request of France, Brussels simplifies state aid to green technologies whose nuclear energy

At the request of France, among others, the system introduces the non -discrimination of nuclear against renewable energies to reduce CO2 emissions, invoking “technological neutrality.”

The European Commission presented on Wednesday a new system that facilitates the state aid of EU member countries to develop low carbon technologies, including nuclear, facing China and the United States competition. The European Executive, responsible for guaranteeing fair competition within the single market, presented the conditions under which national subsidies can be granted to investments in clean energy or industrial decarbonation.

This text, which will be applied until the end of 2030, replaces a frame configured in 2022 and expires this year. At the request of France, and other countries favorable to atoms such as Sweden or Poland, introduce nuclear non -discrimination against renewable energies to reduce CO2 emissions, invoking “technological neutrality.”

Answer to German applications

The new framework in state aid covers support for renewable energies, but also the “low carbon” hydrogen, even when it occurs with nuclear electricity “, for sectors that are difficult to decarbons where other options are not yet viable,” says the commission. Subsidies will be possible to plant factories in solar panel markets, wind turbines, batteries, heat pumps, as well as for the manufacture of components of the nuclear sector.

The commission also responds to Germany’s requests. The electrical system of the first European economy is based on intermittent renewable energies and gas energy plants, whose price has increased considerably with the end of low -cost Russian hydrocarbons deliveries from the invasion of Ukraine. Berlin will be authorized to temporarily subsidize the price of electricity for industries that are energy highly in energy in exchange for investments in decarbonation.

Fiscal incentives

The text will also allow to quickly approve a remuneration of electricity suppliers by member states to maintain rescue capabilities, such as gas power plants, to respond to the flashing of photovoltaic plants and wind turbines. Support will also refer to the decarbonation of industrial sites by electrification, even through small small modular nuclear reactors, the use of hydrogen, biomass or carbon capture.

Member States may also offer tax incentives, such as the accelerated investment deduction in the technologies of the tax revenues of companies. Finally, Member States may reduce the risks of private sector investments in low carbon technologies, even in energy infrastructure, in the form of capital, loans or guarantees.
