The SNCF reviews its luggage transport service: more complete and flexible but also much more expensive

The operator now trusts this service to Geodis, a subsidiary of the SNCF group, with more flexibility but also a higher price.

Quite practical, especially for the elderly, the SNCF travelers luggage service is evolving. It allows you to trust your luggage to the operator from home and give them to your destination.

After a new call for tenders, it is no longer operated by Chronopost for SNCF travelers, but by Geodis, a subsidiary of the SNCF group, a transport and logistics group. With the promise of more personalization and flexibility.

Specifically, two types of luggage are taken care of throughout the Metropolitan France, in Corsica and on the islands with access to the road:

  • Classic 25 kg mold and 2.5 meters maximum each, including flexible bags with zipper and suitcases.
  • Voluminous luggage, such as skis, snowboards, strollers, bicycles and non -motorized wheelchairs of 25 kg and 3 meters maximum.

“Thanks to its connected network of 110 agencies distributed throughout the French territory, Geodis guarantees the attention of luggage from Monday to Friday to the door of origin,” and even “expresses delivery for any order made before noon,” you can read in a press release.

This is the main novelty of this change: the transport of luggage can now be reserved the day before for the next day, before it had to be done four days in advance.

Real -time monitoring

Another novelty, “for the elimination and delivery of the luggage, a niche of a four -hour meeting to the client is announced, allowing a small mobilization time,” adds SNCF travelers.

Deliveries take place every morning, except Sunday. SNCF Voyageurs specifies that a delivery points will soon be available.

“As soon as the order is placed, Geodis configures an SMS and/or email notification system, to allow the customer to follow the different stages of the service in real time.”

With respect to conventional luggage prices, they are:

  • 55 euros with train ticket and advantage or loyalty card
  • 52 euros with the large advantage of the traveler the club
  • 65 euros with a train ticket
  • 71 euros without train ticket and without card

It is also possible to do on your floor, a 7 euros service.

If the service offered by Geodis seems more flexible and efficient than the previous one administered by Chronopost, it is also much more expensive. For the classic history, old prices were 32 euros (with train ticket and advantage card or loyalty cards), 38 euros (with train ticket) and 41.80 euros (without a ticket and without card).
