For the first time in France, a contagious home was identified nodular dermatosis, a disease that affects cattle, in a farm in Savoy, announced the Ministry of Agriculture from Monday to Monday to Monday.
“The DNC is not transmitted to humans, nor by contact with infected cattle, either by food, or by insect bites. There is also no risk to human health related to the consumption of products of these animals,” said the ministry. On the other hand, “this animal disease is very harmful to the health of livestock and leads to significant production losses,” he emphasizes. It only affects cattle, bait and buffalo, and does not refer to sheep or goats, for example, he adds.
The DNC is characterized by the appearance of many nodules in the skin and internal mucous membranes, that is, the swelling of the infected body of the animal. Very contagious, it is transmitted by “storoxe” insect bites (a spicy fly) or “taon”, explains the ministry. Present in Sub -Saharan Africa, Asia and, since 2023, in North Africa, it was seen in Italy on June 22, 2025 “also for the first time, in Sardinia and then in Lombardy.”
“The investigations will be diligent”
After the issuance of a prefectural decree, the house detected on Sunday in Savoy will be “depopulated” to avoid the spread of the DNC “, in accordance with the European law, which requires the eradication of this disease,” according to the Ministry’s statement. Prevention measures are also implemented within a radius of 50 km around infected reproduction, with respect to the departments of Savoy, Haute-Savoie, Ain and Isère, which imply greater veterinary surveillance and restrictions on the movement of cattle.
“The surveys will be diligent to identify the source of the infection,” said the ministry.
