Almost 12 billion euros in income: before the Oasis tour, the juicy commercial tourism business broke records in the United Kingdom

Last year, tourists who attended attending concerts or festivals throughout the Canal spent 10 billion pounds (11.7 billion euros), 8 billion more than 2023.

Tourists who attended concerts or musical festivals in the United Kingdom spent 10 billion pounds (11.7 billion euros) in 2024, a record, according to a study by the Sectorial Association of the United Kingdom Music published on Tuesday.

This amount marks a significant increase compared to the 8 billion pounds paid in 2023.

Last year, a little more than half (5,100 million) of the 10 billion pounds corresponds to the expenses of tickets, meals, transport or accommodation, the rest is made up of indirect expenses (security, suppliers …).

Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen and Dua Lipa headed

The sector was first taken by Taylor Swift’s concerts, but also those of Bruce Springsteen, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo or Charli XCX. They helped attract 23.5 million tourists, who are essentially British, against 19.2 million of the year before. The Oasis tour, which begins Friday in Cardiff, should extend this dynamic in 2025.

“The British music industry faces several challenges that threaten its world status,” said Music UK, citing the “increase in the costs of the tour, the neighborhood closures of the neighborhood” and the “crisis of purchasing power.”

There is no equivalent study in France that measures all expenses related to musical tourism, but also with us, the concert and festivals sector has increased considerably since the end of the pandemic. In 2022, total ticket revenues crossed the bar of one billion euros (1,100 million precisely) and exceeded 1.4 billion euros in 2023, according to the most recent data at the National Music Center.

“We have our strong indicator, which is the compilation of the fiscal tax with the National Music Center, explains about the culture of France, Malika Séguineau, the general director of Ehhoscenes, the main union of the private presentation live. Small comparison: before the crisis covid crisis, it was 35 million euros per year of taxes since after Covid, we started with 50 million, then 53 million and last year, we were 53 million, 53 million, we were 53 million.
