“A minute delay is 100 euros in costs”: the colossal invoice of the air traffic controllers for companies and airports

The companies that serve French airports are penalized, but it is the air traffic throughout Western Europe that suffers from movement because France is the most crowded country in Europe.

Two minority unions of aerial controllers are on strike and it is all European traffic that requires water. This Friday, the second (already priori last) strike day for the skylights of heaven still caused many cancellations of robbery, especially in Paris and Nice, and many delays, while the long vacations begin.

Therefore, less than 300 strikers cause chaos in France but also in Europe. Because France is also the most popular country in the old continent.

The cost of this strike is difficult to evaluate precisely, but it will be colossal for the sector, whether airlines or airports.

According to the media specialized in tourism such as Daily.fr, a strike day costs between 3 and 4.5 million euros in air navigation rates. During these two days, the bill rises to 6/9 million euros for airport managers.

A canceled flight is 17,000 euros in losses for a company

For companies, a canceled flight is around 17,000 euros in dry loss. For Patrick Tabarot, Minister of Transportation, they are “several million euros” that airlines will lose.

Just Thursday, Ryanair, particularly affected by the movement, had to cancel 170 flights, a loss of almost 2.9 million euros.

And there are also the delays that accumulate since Thursday. According to Pascal de Izaguirre, president of the FNAM (National Air Air Federation and its trades) and CEO de Corsair, “a minute is 100 euros of cost for an airline.”

Also according to Ryanair, due to the control of air traffic, France is at the top of its air delays classification. The company ensures that 26,008 of its flights were late in France in 2025 and that 4.7 million passengers were assigned. The company also has 16,667 delays in Spain (three million passengers assigned) and 7,526 in Germany.
