The president of the Board of Directors of the National Tunisian Company, Tunisair, was withdrawn from its functions after new interruptions that caused “great dissatisfaction in public opinion,” the Ministry of Transportation announced on Saturday.
Tunisair has been strongly criticized for several years by several passengers, who report delays or flight cancellations.
The Ministry of Transportation clarified that the Board of Directors would be summoned to choose the successor of Habib Mekki “as soon as possible to guarantee the proper operation of the company.”
He also launched a “warning” to Tunisair stop bosses so that they can take better care of passengers in all airports affected by disturbances.
Corruption
A procedure is being carried out to hold “anyone who has failed in his duty,” the Ministry warned. These employees will be replaced “by people capable of assuming their responsibilities, serving the citizen and preserving the sustainability of the business,” he added.
A recent testimony about a Bordeaux-Tunis flight came out the day after its scheduled schedule, and that required a “legal action” against Tunisair, was very commented on Facebook.
The Ministry has not given more details about the disturbances mentioned in its press release.
On the other hand, he said that “the evolution of files related to financial and administrative corruption that led to Tunisair’s current situation.”
Last year, the Tunisair CEO, as well as the head of the company’s internal union, had been imprisoned for accusations of corruption.
The authorities announced this year a recovery plan for Tunisair, strongly in debt, to improve their performance and governance.
