Carrefour announced Thursday to sell 9 stores in France, “for an assessment of around 70 million euros”, including 7 in Cooperativo U, with whom relations have recently been overheated.
This transfer is not the fruit of the vast restructuring that has affected a large distribution for months, with many store sales in a tension sector, but essentially the result of a competition authority.
In March, Carrefour was authorized by the body, particularly responsible for ensuring that competition between distributors is not too low at the local level, to buy Cora brands and coincide with the separation of eight stores.
“The group announces today the signing of two agreements on the sale of 9 stores located in the areas identified by the competition authority, including 5 Carrefour hypermarkets (including 3 former Cora and 1 former casino), 2 Carrefour Market, 1 Carrefour City and 1 Match Store,” the group said in his press release.
Or cooperative continues its expansion
The largest agreement, which refers to 7 stores, has approved with Cooperative U, which seeks to reach market share of 15% by 2030.
Carrefour and Cooperative U concluded an agreement on Monday and acted their merger in the coming years, allies to negotiate their purchases from suppliers and in Brussels.
The two brands announced the same day “their intention to cooperate, in a second step, in other areas”, starting with “Distributor Brands”.
With this acquisition, or cooperative, fourth French distributor (behind Leclerc, Carrefour and Intemché) continues his career in the square meters.
The other agreement refers to Intemché, also a buyer in recent months, which acquires two supermarkets, in Argenteuil (Val d’Oise) and Pavillons-Sous-Bois (Seine-Sain-Denis).
“They should be effective at the end of the first semester of 2026” for a total valuation of about 70 million euros.
