EU: The Commission will offer a new tax on large companies

Brussels suggests a direct debit on companies with a net turnover of 50 million euros to create new sources of financing.

Brussels will offer a new tax on companies whose net billing
It exceeds 50 million euros, reports Financial Times on Friday, July 11. The European Commission proposal consulted by the Daily Economic would cover all the large companies that operate in the EU, regardless of the location of its central office. A “forks” system would allow groups with the highest income to contribute more.

This tax could generate new sources of financing for the Common European Union (EU), while new expenses are anticipated, especially in terms of defense. But, to enter into force, the measure must be approved by the 27 Member States.

According to the Financial Times, other direct debit proposals must be announced next week, such as a tax processing costs, especially aimed at China imports.

The project indicates that the Commission, the Executive Agency of the Union, has resigned from a tax on digital services aimed at US giants in the technological sector, such as Apple and Meta, although these are always concerned about another broader fiscal project.

Imminent verdict for customs tasks

This information occurs when the EU is preparing for a possible letter from the US President Donald Trump that details his customs duties about trade union products, the first commercial partner and in terms of investments in the United States.

Donald Trump strongly criticized what he considers an excessive regulation of the EU with respect to large US technology companies. The EU could also impose additional taxes on non -recycled electronic and tobacco products, according to the Financial Times.

At the end of June, Canada has stopped establishing a digital services tax, hoping to appease negotiations with Washington. Despite this, Donald Trump said on July 11 that he would impose a 35% surcharge in Canadian imports of August 1.
