“We have decided to advance”: Donald Trump announces customs duties of 30% for the EU against 10% today

These customs tasks will be applied to the EU and Mexico from August 1. Until now, most exports from the former continent to America were taxed at 10%.

Donald Trump announced customs duties of 30% in European Union goods, according to the Reuters agency. However, Brussels and Washington were negotiating a commercial agreement on this issue. The US president indicates that “he decided to move forward.”

As he had done with other countries, the US President informed the EU through a letter addressed to Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.

The real estate magnate insists on the importance of the commercial deficit that his country accuses of the European bloc. This is 157 billion euros in goods, but only 48 billion euros if we count goods and services as the BFM business was recently observed.

According to him, the magnitude of this deficit justifies the introduction of customs duties. It is responsible for specifying that they will rise to “only” (sic) 30% as of August 1.

“As you know, there will be no price (Customs, Editor’s note) if the European Union, or European companies, decide to build or manufacture products in the United States and, in fact, we will do everything possible to obtain approvals quickly, professional and systematic, in other words, in a few weeks,” says the US president.

2.5% before Trump’s return

Until now, most exports from the former continent to the United States taxed 10%, when cars were 25%and 50%steel and aluminum.

Before the power of Donald Trump, the United States led only 2.5% of the value of the main European imports.

Donald Trump adds that once again these customs tasks will increase if the EU retaliates.

The European Commission, only competent to negotiate the Commercial Agreements (EU) of the European Union, tried to conclude an agreement in principle with the United States. Unlike the United KingdomThe EU has chosen to make negotiations last, hoping to obtain a better agreement. However, American pressure had been strengthened in recent days.

The president also announced 30% customs tariffs in imports of Mexico.
