France lost more than 1,500 ATMs last year, this Thursday said the National Payment Media Committee (CNMP), chaired by the Banking of France, without disturbing good access to species. The ATM (DAB) number was 42,578 to December 31 last year, 3.5% less than a year earlier and 15% less than five years ago.
These distributors are distributed in approximately 29,500 sites in just over 6,500 municipalities. The study by the Bank of France adds to the “private points” of liquid distribution to the DAB, 3.9% more than a year. A total of 28,479 stores (Mini -Market, Baker, tobacco office …) offer customers a bank of bank partners against the payment of the same amount per card.
However, this service does not have much to do with the service offered by an automaton: it is only accessible to single -bank customers and only in the opening schedules of the merchant, not 24 hours a day. The withdrawal amount can also be limited and depends on the amount available in the merchant’s cash register, sometimes not enough to satisfy the application.
“Accessibility to species remains (…) at a very high level”
Consortium (CB) bank cards seek to extend the use of these private points to customers of several banks: a test will be launched between the different contact points of the postal bank (excluding DAB) and the “CA relays” (commercial name of the private agricultural points) will be launched for 2026, the specifications of Thursday in AFP a spokesper for CB. “The amounts delivered per day will be limited”, from the order of 20 to 100 euros, and “the merchant can only deliver species within the limits of his bottom,” the Consortium is temple.
“Accessibility to species remains (…) at a very high level,” said the general director of the French Banking Federation (FBF), Maya Atig, in a statement transmitted to AFP. The Bank of France, guaranteeing the accessibility of the species, is in the same line.
The decrease in historical banks in the field, which is explained by the investigation of cost savings and the fall in the use of these machines, opened a market to other cash specialists. Absent from this service until 2018, Loomis, Brink and Euronet now operate 961 DAB in French territory.
To relaunch distributors, three banking groups have joined to create Cash services DAB. The Société Générale, BNP Paribas and Credit Mutuel Federal Alliance (which also owns the CIC), and its number must be multiplied by 15 this year, according to the joint 2SF company, is led to replace in France.
There Common Company For the three banking groups, it plans to pass from around 200 operating cash sites today to 300 at the end of February, more than 1,000 at the end of June and almost 3,000 sites at the end of 2025.
