The last meeting of the opportunity? Ursula von der Leyen announces that Donald Trump will go on Sunday in Scotland

Ursula von der Leyen announced this Friday, July 25 that he will recognize the US president in Scotland on Sunday.

The president of the European Commission, the EU, Ursula von der Leyen, announced, on Friday, July 25, agreed with US President Donald Trump of a meeting on Sunday in Scotland to discuss the tasks of US customs customs of 30% in European imports.

“After a good exchange by phone with @potus, we agreed to meet on Sunday in Scotland to discuss transatlantic commercial relations and the way to keep them solid,” he wrote in X.

The European Union still has the hope of negotiating a commercial agreement with the United States before August 1, a deadline from which the US president threatens to impose 30% customs taxes on all imports in Europe.

Donald Trump said Friday that the probability that the United States concludes a commercial agreement with the EU was “50-50” while the date of August 1 was approaching.

“We are working in a very regular way with Europe,” he said, before going to Scotland, where the president had already planned to go on Sunday for a stay mixing golf and diplomacy.

On Thursday, a European commission spokesman said an agreement was “at hand.”

Europeans ready to retaliate in case

While the European leaders already thought of a nearby agreement, Donald Trump had fallen short on July 12 when this threat of customs duties of 30% in all European products in early August was short.

Since then, negotiations have occurred to avoid these measures that would sink these two giants of the world economy in a substantial commercial dispute.

According to several European sources, the agreement under negotiation establishes customs of 15% in European exports for the United States, with exemptions in particular in aeronautics, spirits or certain medications.

A separate agreement refers to steel. According to diplomats, imports from Europe would be supervised by fees and any advance would be suggested up to 50%.

This global agreement project, which resembles what is announced between the United States and Japan in the mid -week, remains suspended in the green light of the US president. He had already rejected a more favorable previous version for the EU, with customs tasks established by 10%.

And in the case of negotiations failure, the Europeans announced on Thursday that they had put the last hand in possible reprisals: a list of American goods that would be taxed by a total of 93 billion euros, as of August 7 and in several stages.
