“We have an agreement”: the United States and the European Union have concluded an agreement on customs duties

The EU and the United States announce that a commercial agreement related to 15% of customs tariffs on European exports has concluded.

“We have an agreement,” said Ursula von der Leyen this Sunday, July 27. Brussels and Washington have concluded a commercial agreement that provides 15% of customs duties on European exports to the United States.

“We have an agreement between the two largest economies in the world,” said the president of the European Commission, announcing that the United States will impose customs duties of 15% in EU products.

“This is a good agreement, a great agreement, with difficult negotiations,” he said. Early in the day, the two leaders had estimated that there was “one in two possibilities” that an agreement was concluded.

An extreme agreement

This agreement is the fruit of long months of negotiations and a decisive meeting this weekend in Scotland between the US President and the president of the European Commission. European products were threatened to suffer from 30% as of August 1, as announced by Donald Trump if no agreement was reached.

According to this agreement, the European Union will invest $ 600 billion in the United States. According to Donald Trump, he will also buy $ 750 billion in American energy, as well as in US military teams.

“Nothing moves for steel and aluminum, it is something international, customs duties remain the same,” said Donald Trump, who had already specified that pharmaceutical products would not be part of the agreement.

The White House tenant had already declared, before the announcement of the agreement, that the EU would not benefit from customs tasks below 15%, a level comparable to the agreement found earlier this month with Japan.
